You will be be requested to fill out the neccesary documentation that will give us more information about yourself, your medical and dental history. You can also do this online by simply clicking here and filling out the forms.

Dr. Kotze will consult you to evaluate if it is neccesary for a full examination of your face, jaw, and teeth. We also want to listen to and understand your desires and concerns about your dental care. Only then will we be able to provide you with the excellent care you deserve.

While we can often answer general questions about treatment during the initial examination, we can address specific areas only after careful analysis of the diagnostic records. We feel it is important to analyze each patient's specific needs because in-depth planing leads to superior results and higher patient satisfaction.

A parent must be present at the appointment in case of a minor.

Clinical records

If the preliminary examination points to a need for treatment and you feel ready, a complete examination of your face, jaws and teeth is done with the aid of x-rays, photos and impressions, to help Dr Kotze to identify the problems on a three dimensional basis and then determine what appropriate treatment should be done.

A parent must be present or have given written permission for this to happen in the case of a minor.

After the records have been taken you will be asked to make a discussion appointment in 4 weeks time.

As soon as your treatment plan is worked out , you will visit us for a discussion about your treatment plan. (4 weeks after your exam)

During this visit:

  • The orthodontic problems are presented to you
  • The treatment plan and options are discussed with you
  • The duration of treatment and the financial implications in this regard is discussed with you.
  • Co-operation factors are explained.
  • A written diagnosis and treatment plan as well as installment payable cost plan, are given to you for your insurance purposes.
We will answer any questions you may have. Our goal is for our patients to leave the office with a clear understanding of their specific needs, treatment details, cost of treatment and length of treatment.

A parent is required to attend this, the most important appointment, in the case of a minor.

After the appointment you will be requested to arrange your schedules to start the treatment with three to four appointment of varying length (according to treatment requirements) each one week apart.

Further appointments are generally two to eight weeks apart depending on treatment requirements.  Most appointments are short appointments, ten to fifteen minutes in duration and therefore always scheduled in the afternoon after school.  It will however be necessary to have some long appointments (30 minutes and longer) during school hours.  These however only occur four to six times a year.  Please arrange with teachers to make up school work for these appointments.

Different appointments are scheduled for different days and times to accommodate time scheduling and work efficiency and not waste your valuable time.  In order to keep on schedule you need to be on time, and later arrival may mean you have to wait until timely patients are seen, or you have to be rescheduled.

Treatment instruction

E-mail Print

Routine instructions will be given directly to the patient and not via the parent, also in case of a minor.  We believe in the growth of self image through accepting responsibility for challenges in the treatment.  Parents are however always welcome to be present and also take note of the instructions and information.

Should a parent wish to discuss a matter, please arrange with reception for such an appointment ahead of time as time needs to be scheduled for it since the doctor's normal time is committed to treatment and communication with staff and patient.
